Gary Potter (Catholics for Christian Political Action):

“When the Christian majority takes over this country, there will be no satanic churches, no more free distribution of pornography, no more talk of rights for homosexuals.  After the Christian majority takes control, pluralism will be seen as immoral and evil and the state will not permit anybody the right to practice evil.”

That pretty much leaves him out in the cold, as clearly it is his church that is satanic and it is evil that he and his evangelical cohorts practice.  “Get behind me, Satan!  You are a stumbling block to me; for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but man’s.”  Matthew 16:23

Fred Phelps (Wesboro Baptist Church) about homosexuals:

“If you got to castrate your miserable self with a piece of rusty barb wire, do it.”

“Hear the word of the Lord, America, fag-enablers are worse than the fags themselves, and will be punished in the everlasting lake of fire!”

“American Veterans are to blame for the fag takeover of this nation.  They have the power in their political lobby to influence the zeitgeist, get the fags out of the military, and back in the closet where they belong!”

“Not only is homosexuality a sin, but anyone who supports fags is just as guilty as they are.  You are both worthy of death.”

Beverly LaHaye, Concerned Women for America — “Yes, religion and politics do mix. America is a nation based on biblical principles. Christian values dominate our government. The test of those values is the Bible. Politicians who do not use the Bible to guide their public and private lives do not belong in office.”

People like this clearly don’t have a clue what biblical values are. Is Beverly prepared to have her daughter or granddaughter forced to marry her rapist? Is she prepared to have widowed women forced to have sex with their late husband’s brothers until a male heir is produced? Is she prepared to have our armed forces kill all the men, male children, and non-virgins (who may be pregnant), and take the virgins as spoils of war? Is she content being subservient to her husband in all matters? Is she prepared for all women to be treated as property? Do any of those biblical edicts dominate our government?

“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.” — Ann Coulter

“Not all Muslims may be terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.” — Ann Coulter

“Being nice to people is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity, as opposed to other religions whose tenets are more along the lines of ‘kill everyone who doesn’t smell bad and doesn’t answer to the name Mohammed.'” — Ann Coulter

“With all due respect to those dear people, my friend, God Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew.” — Bailey Smith

http://www.npr.org/2011/04/18/135517274/beyond-bunnies-the-real-meaning-of-easter-season?ft=1&f=1016

I read this brief essay this morning and while I respect every person’s thoughts and feelings, I also thought how wrong this woman has it. When we appear to “stop” here, our spirit does not stop, but changes location, regroups, rests, and is revitalized. It’s about rebirth.

I’ve been attempting to teach our 6-year-old grandson the true meaning of the season that was taken over by Christians centuries ago. There is a reason for all the symbols of fertility, for the bunnies and the eggs and the joy of the season. This is the season of Ostara, the celebration of the fertility of the Earth and the life it nurtures and preserves. It is a celebration of the rebirth of the Sun, when the days have reached equal hours with the dark and the warmth of lengthening days coaxes everything back to life.

Getting ashes rubbed on your forehead doesn’t call us to come out from our winter lairs and greet the forsythia blossoms and the daffodils that rise from the blanket of last autumn’s dead leaves. This is not a season of death, it is a season of resurrection. It reminds us that like the life that lies dormant all winter awakens and begins the cycle anew, we too pass from life to death and back to life again.

Look around you. This is not about a murdered man rising from the dead, it is about the cycle of life that teaches there is no death, but rather a transition of energy. Nothing dies, nothing stops, it simply changes form. From barren ground to grasses, herbs, flowers, to budding trees to fruit to rest again.

One thing I do agree on is that there is so little time. Our lives gain speed and race toward old age and physical death. So use your time wisely. One good way is to teach the children the meaning of the cycle of life that never stops.
